Artistic Director Amy Lewis received a BA in Theater Arts from the University of California at Los Angeles, and a MFA in Dance at Mills College.  She has participated as both an actor and dancer in numerous theater productions in Los Angeles and the Bay Area,  as well as directed Marie and Bruce by Wallace Shawn for The Bluefish Group.  In 2005, Amy began presenting her choreography in venues both in San Francisco and Oakland, including Jon Sims Center for the Arts, CounterPULSE, Shotwell Studios (Women’s Work), Project Artaud Theater (West Wave Dance Festival, 2006), John Ryan Theater (DUMBO Dance Festival, 2007) in Brooklyn, New York, and YBCA Theater (WestWave Dance Festival, 2008).  Lewis formed Push Up Something Hidden in 2007, presenting the first season at Dance Mission Theater.

The following is a list of artists that have contributed to any work shown by Push Up Something Hidden thus far.  I thank them for their amazing contribution and hope to always be able to work with them.

Originally from New Orleans, Sonsherée Giles is a dancer, choreographer and costume designer who now lives in Oakland, CA with her husband Jerry Smith. She loves to dance, make dances, sew, practice yoga, and run around Lake Merritt. In 2006, she earned her MFA in performance/choreography from Mills College. She creates dances primarily based on images and landscapes that saturate her daily life. Since 2001, she has been collaborating with Jerry Smith, together they combine movement, sound, video and sculpture to create a performance piece. In May of 2005, Sonsheree began dancing with AXIS Dance Company and has had the opportunity to perform works by Sonya Delwaide, Katie Faulkner, Kim Epifano, Margaret Jenkins, and Victoria Marks. She enjoys this work very much and also teaches physically integrated dance classes with AXIS. Because of her love for sewing she has been fortunate to design and create costumes for various artists including Sonya Delwaide, Margaret Jenkins, peck peck dance ensemble, Katie Faulkner, June Watanabe and Amy Lewis.

Choreographer and dancer Margaret Cromwell was born in Oklahoma. Her love of dance led to her decision to complete high school at North Carolina School of the Arts. She initially studied ballet, but switched to modern partly to study composition. She graduated from high school as well as earned her BFA from NCSA. She spent a year on the island of St. Lucia where she taught dance, drama, and visual arts in a secondary school and performed with a local company. She earned her MFA in dance choreography and performance from Mills College. She has had the pleasure of dancing with AXIS Dance Company for the last year.

lola a. katie is a native Australian who learned at an early age to appreciate the art in dance, stage production, photography, scooners of VB, and, above all, humour. She earned her AA, BA and MFA in Dance, Choreography and Performance, but it was living that taught her to truly dance, and it is life that brings her the greatest art. lola a. katie also works in photography, film, stage craft, stage management, and lighting design. She has grown in the experiences gained from working with many great artists and choreographers, one being Amy Lewis and Push Up Something Hidden. lola considers herself very fortunate to have rigorously studied the Graham Technique under artists such as Marni Thomas Wood, a former soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company whom, with her late husband David, helped to establish the current baccalaureate degree in dance at UC Berkeley. lola holds a great interest in art and gains inspiration from many of the greats, especially Malavich, Rothko, Caravaggio, Man Ray, Lee Miller, and Hitchcock. Currently, lola a. katie continues her work in many artistic disciplines.

Emily Gorman, originally from Kentucky, now resides in San Francisco.  She received her MFA in Performance and Choreography from Mills College in 2005.  While at Mills she had the opportunity to perform in works by Sonya Delwaide, Molissa Fenley, Margaret Jenkins, Mary Carbonara, and Mark Morris.  Since graduating she has been seen on stage with DOUBLE VISION and COUNTERPOINTe.  She is currently on faculty at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco where she teaches both children and adults.  Special thanks go to her partner Ben and their son for their continued love, support, and patience.

Bill Wolter is a composer, multimedia artist, sound engineer and musician, focused on electric guitar. His music hovers around experimental rock, jazz, noise, new music, and all areas in between.  A restless collaborator who constantly seeks the most diverse and challenging musical experiences, Bill performs or collaborates frequently throughout the San Francisco Bay Area with a wide range of musicians and artists. He plays guitar and composes original tunes for Bay Area jazz/rock/prog bands Slydini and Innerear Brigade, and has collaborated with other performance ensembles such as SF Sound, Moe!kestra and Double Vision.
