Dancer: Amy Lewis

Artistic Director Amy Lewis formed Push Up Something Hidden in 2007, presenting the first season at Dance Mission Theater in San Francisco.  In addition, Lewis has shown work at Jon Sims Center for the Arts, CounterPULSE, Shotwell Studios (Women’s Work), Project Artaud Theater (West Wave Dance Festival, 2006), John Ryan Theater (DUMBO Dance Festival, 2007) in Brooklyn, New York, and YBCA Theater (West Wave Dance Festival, 2008).  The second season created by P.U.S.H., a collaboration with visual artist Katie Lewis, composer Bill Wolter, and technologist Christopher Mentzel, was presented at CELLspace.  Lewis has been the grateful recipient of two grants, in 2007 and 2008, from the Zellerbach Family Foundation.

Derived from either the creation of systems or personal and public history, Lewis' work translates the private domain of perspective to the public domain of performance.  Lewis creates both dramatic, story-drive work, resulting from a background in theater, and formal work that derives from the creation of systems.  Lewis holds a BA in theater from UCLA and an MFA in dance from Mills College.
